Neuroscience:Your Amazing Brain

IMG_0010Lessons from 83,000 Brain scans

Do you ever wonder why when you hear an old song, your mind is flooded with memories? You feel emotions, and  maybe even have a Deja Vu.

I am one of those people that wonder, ponder, and think about why I behave the way I do.

The Secret Life o f the Brain

Every thought and action is controlled by the body’s most complex organ, the brain. The brain is composed of many cells that have specific and functional tasks, like responding to an old song, or  processing the visual aides on this page. Brain cells make connections with the other cells.  Scientists study  the human brain to understand its many functions. Scientists have identified the function of  brain cells and the roles they play. In addition, imaging is helping create the regions responsible for specific emotions and behaviors.

Some technology tools that doctors use to see brain images are:

EEG– Electroencepholagraph

CAT – Computerized Axil Tomography

PET – Positron Emission         Tomography

MRI-Magnetic Resonance Image

MEG– Magneticencepholagraphy

In this image of the cerebral cortex of an embryonic mouse, scientists labelled each type of neuron with a different color. These neurons will establish connections with one another and with other parts of the brain, and, in humans, they will form the basis of our higher cognitive functions such as language and abstract thinking.

This is an image of hundreds of varieties of neurons.
